Local Gander Mountain ammo/gun report

Was there today for the first time in probably 2 months. The ammo shelf was probably 75% bare across all calibers. The handgun case was maybe half full. Prices have crept upwards on some of the guns I looked at last time by about 15-20% on average.

Well, if your Gander Mtn. is like the one by me, then the reason the shelves are 75% bare instead of 95% like Walmart is because of their much higher prices. The handgun case at the one by me was very much full and not many people were shopping there. Competition plays a role.

On a related note, the Walmart by me only had handgun ammo in .25ACP. At Scheels, all HG ammo was gone!

FWIW, I don't shoot anymore. I'm a gun owner, not a gun shooter.

100% spot on. Their prices are about 20%+ higher roughly compared to Walmart.

Went back today since it was on the way home...got some info from the sales guy. They had 60 cases of 9mm come in 2 days ago, and it was sold out in 2 hours. This despite a 3 box per person limit on any cailbers, mixed and matched.

The cheapest 38 Special they had was Remington 125gr 50 count for $39.99, 2 boxes left. The cheapest 40 S&W they had was Remington UMC 50 count for $29.99, 4 boxes. They had a few of the value pack boxes of 40 S&W Rem UMC, 250 count at $119.99 each. All of those prices seemed much higher than I remember at Walmart. But GM has them, Wallyworld doesnt.

Rough summary of total handgun ammo...
38 special about 45 total boxes
40 SW about 60 total boxes
357 man none
9 mm none
38 auto 12 total boxes
45 auto 18 total boxes

Wow! If people continue to be willing to spend such large amounts of money on ammo, prices will never come down! The solution seems to be for everyone to give it a break for awhile, which would seem like the natural thing to happen anyway with everyone losing their jobs.

one thing that I notice was that our local gun shops, Cabellas', and Bass Pros all have plenty of handguns, shotguns, and non-EBRs.....but little ammo

i just got back from gander, couldn't believe it, they had EVERYTHING in stock. $14.99 for a 50 rnd box of balzer 9mm. i could only afford 3 boxes of the 9mm because i also picked up a beretta bobcat 21.

My son just returned from a small local gun shop.

They had one box of FMJ .380 in stock. $31 for 50 round box.

The owner said he cannot get any .380 and can only get very small amounts of other calibers. He said he is losing gun sales because buyers want some ammo to go with their new gun and he can't get any.

He believes the gooberment is involved in the shortage.

The Gander Mountain by my place was trying to sell wolf .223 for $10 per box. Tons of this stuff left. I wonder why?

They also had Federal XM193 for $499.99 per 1000rnds. They had 6 cases left.
